FAQ

Flamethrowers are federally unregulated in the United States — the BATF does not consider them a firearm. No NFA tax stamp, weapons license, or FFL dealer required. State-level restrictions only apply in CA and MD. For more details, visit our FAQ page.
The ARC runs on standard gasoline (any octane or ethanol level) — a bright, fast flame that’s the simplest fuel to run.
Some users mix in up to 50% diesel for a slightly smaller flame and longer burn time — useful for controlled burn and clearing work. Too much diesel will cause inconsistent ignition (diesel is harder to ignite than gasoline).
Cold weather note: diesel fuel can freeze. Do not store or use the ARC with diesel in below-freezing temperatures — run pure gasoline if it’s cold.
Note: the ARC is not napalm-compatible. The ARC uses a fuel-pump-driven delivery system, which can’t run thickened fuels. If napalm capability is important to you, look at our X15 or XL18 — both use a CO2-propellant design and are napalm-compatible.
Free UPS Ground shipping on all Throwflame flamethrowers. In-stock units ship the same or next business day from our facility in Cleveland, Ohio, with most U.S. deliveries arriving in 1–5 business days. Tracking is emailed when the order ships.
The two ARC variants are mechanically identical — same 6061-T6 body, same plasma arc ignition, same 30ft range, same modular quad-rail platform. The only difference is the battery pack:
- Standard ARC — 5,000 mAh battery
- ARC Pro — 6,000 mAh battery (~20% more uninterrupted firing time)
If you’re using the ARC for short bursts (pest control, lighting bonfires, occasional brush clearing), the Standard is plenty. For longer jobs — extended clearing, prescribed burns, hours of fire work — the Pro’s extra runtime pays for itself.
Why lithium-ion (and not LiPo):
Both packs use the same custom 12V lithium-ion chemistry that drives the ARC’s electric arc ignition and high-pressure fuel pump. Some competitor flamethrowers run on off-the-shelf lithium-polymer (LiPo) packs rated around 2,000 mAh — the same battery type found in RC toys. We engineered a custom lithium-ion pack specifically for the ARC because it delivers:
- 2× to 3× the capacity of the typical competitor LiPo (5,000–6,000 mAh vs ~2,000 mAh) — significantly more trigger time per charge
- Longer cycle life — many more recharges over the battery’s usable lifetime
- Safer cell chemistry — lithium-ion is more thermally stable than LiPo formulations designed for hobbyist applications

My honest thoughts of having the Arc Flamethrower for a month so far has been fun. Used it to melt light snow and ice, started a bonfire with it, showed it off to a few friends. It was entertaining for sure! I do like how compact and modular it is, and the the weight is not that bad with gas filled in the reservoir.

Get the backpack tank. You’ll need it! 🙂

Kicking myself for not getting the chainsaw grip. I ordered an extra regular grip. I have it mounted on the top rail upside-down. Still works good! Just a fantastic product! Unbelievably stoked!

The unit alone is NICE; well-built, high-tech piece of kit, with a decent reach, & burn time. It’s sleek, & has a “feel” to it. Thought went into its design & execution…it LOOKS good. Fun for starting the bonfires by itself, but it’s actually GREAT for controlled burns with the backpack. Between this & the chickens, even the dog didn’t catch a tick this year. It’s definitely function over form with the backpack, as attention could be given to comfort/ease of wear, but you’re not going on a hike with the thing, so the 45 minutes or so it takes to clear a hillside isn’t giving you blisters, & it’s off several times for refueling in the mix. Great unit, I give it a solid 10/10. My third flamethrower (2nd electric), & without hesitation I can say that it is the best by far.
